Description and Requirements

The VP Associate General Counsel is responsible for the performance of a wide variety of legal and regulatory activities of Healthfirst, Inc. and its subsidiaries. With broad latitude for independent judgment and discretion, the VP, Associate General Counsel works with all Healthfirst departments to provide legal advice and appropriate instruments.


  • Counsels Human Resources and business units, offers strategic advice and maintains records with regard to employee and personnel rights, maintains current knowledge regarding labor and employment laws.  

  • Maintains familiarity with all requirements of law and regulation affecting the operation of a managed care company. 

  • Provides legal support to business and strategic initiatives of the company and answers inquiries from staff regarding legal issues. 

  • Advises General Counsel and other managers regarding legal, regulatory, and business options available to the company.

  • Directly performs legal tasks of a varying nature which are attendant to the operation of a nonprofit health care corporation, including but not limited, to contracts affecting Healthfirst, the interpretation and dissemination of new legal requirement.

  • May negotiate and draft contracts between Healthfirst and other companies as well as direct work to outside counsel performing legal tasks for Healthfirst and its subsidiaries.

  • Prepares for and/or represents the company in administrative hearings, trials, depositions, and other employment-related proceedings; assists with reviewing and responding to subpoenas and discovery demands; reviews pleadings; assists with internal investigations.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • J.D Degree 

  • Experience with employment counseling and litigation in a well-established law firm and/or corporate legal department. 

  • Knowledge of general law and operations for corporate entity. 

  • Understanding of litigation, corporate transactions, and other legal processes. 

  • Proficiency with computers, including strong word processing skills. 

  • Proficiency with software utilized to manage electronically stored information and experience addressing electronic discovery issues. 

  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing to staff and management colleagues. 

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; acute attention to detail.

Hiring Range*:

  • Greater New York City Area (NY, NJ, CT residents): $193,100 - $375,870

  • All Other Locations (within approved locations): $193,100 - $375,870

As a candidate for this position, your salary and related elements of compensation will be contingent upon your work experience, education, licenses and certifications, and any other factors Healthfirst deems pertinent to the hiring decision.

*The hiring range is defined as the lowest and highest salaries that Healthfirst in “good faith” would pay to a new hire, or for a job promotion, or transfer into this role.
